Experience Saori Weaving

Have you heard of SAORI weaving?

It’s a popular Japanese weaving style and philosophy that was created in the 1950’s by Misao Jo, an “empty nester” who desired more creativity in the next phase of her life. Now run by Misao’s descendants, SAORI spans many countries around the world. SAORI's uniqueness lies in its free-flowing creativity that gives complete freedom to the weaver, unlike many more traditional forms of weaving which are exacting and pattern-based. Without rules and perfection as the goal, creative self expression is encouraged as each participant weaves their ’true selves’.

In this 3-hour mini- workshop, weavers of ANY experience level (including beginners!) will be introduced to Misao’s philosophy and her four SAORI slogans, while we each explore the forgiving ’no mistakes’ nature of SAORI using a combination of weaving techniques, texture and color. You’ll experience first - hand the user-friendly SAORI loom that will make your weaving experience so easy and enjoyable!

All materials will be provided, including your own SAORI loom set up and ready to go! If you’d like to bring scrap fabric, ribbon, spinning rovings or ANY bits of unused yarn from your stash to make your woven work more personal, please feel free. Students will go home with a one-of-a-kind beautiful piece of woven cloth that might make a stunning wall art piece that you can enjoy forever!

Refund and Cancellation Policy
1. There is a $2 cancellation fee, and 5 days notice must be given to cancel without additional penalty. Cancellations within 5 days of the class start date are subject to a 50% charge. Cancellations made within 2 days of class are not eligible for refund.
