Top-Down Seamless Yoke Sweater Workshop with Ann Budd

We are hosting a multi-session class with Ann Budd using Zoom. You can take comfort of your own home to learn how to make Top-Down Seamless Yoke sweater of your own.

In this six-lesson, eight-week online class, you'll learn how to use the charted instructions in The Knitter's Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters to knit yourself a circular (seamless) yoke sweater with help from Ann Budd every step of the way. You'll choose between a pullover and cardigan, the weight of yarn (from fingering to bulky), and the finished size (from 26" to 54" bust/chest circumference). Everyone will follow the same basic instructions, though it's quite possible that no two students will follow the same size or gauge.

In the first lesson Ann will guide you through knitting a proper gauge swatch and choosing a size, plus give an overview on how to use the charted instructions in the book, even if your gauge doesn't exactly match those provided.

In the following moderated sessions, Ann will demonstrate each of the key steps in knitting a top-down sweater with seamless yoke shaping (great for colorwork!). In addition to providing tips and tricks and answering questions along the way, Ann will discuss how to make simple modifications, including adding simple stitch patterns, adjusting sleeve length, and adding waist or A-line shaping.

This class gives you the opportunity to make your own design choices. If you want to keep things simple, knit a pullover in stockinette stitch so you can focus on familiarizing yourself with how to use the instructions in The Knitter's Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters. If you want to be more adventurous, add a simple stitch or colorwork pattern to your sweater, change the sleeve length, add a collar, etc. Look at the featured sweater patterns in the book to get design ideas to incorporate in your own sweater. However, keep in mind that this is not a knit-a-long for one of the sweater patterns in the book; instead, it is a class on how to design your own sweater.

By the end of class, you'll be able to follow (and adapt) any of the 300 charted patterns for four armhole styles (circular yoke, raglan, set-in sleeve, and saddle shoulder) in The Knitter's Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters.
