Intro to Colorwork
Intro to Colorwork
Stranded colorwork is fun to knit because you see a pattern come alive with your yarn and needles.
In this class, we will talk about what kind of yarn to use, how to choose colors for a project, how to read charts, and how to knit with two yarns in the same row/round. We will also discuss color dominance, floats, and carrying the yarn. Finally, you will also learn how to add a new color and how to weave in the ends.
The chart patterns were taken from the book "The Doodle Knit Directory" by Jamie Lomax. We will also talk about how Chonita used this book to design the headband.
Materials Needed
Yarn - 2 colors of Worsted Weight non-superwash wool.
We recommend Kelbourne Woolens Germantown. The samples were knit with Baby Blue and Oxford Blue.
Needles - 16" Circular Needles in sizes US 6 (4mm) and US 7 (4.5mm)
Stitch Markers - You will want a selection of markers, including one unique for the beginning of the round.
Homework Before Class
When you register for class you will be emailed a PDF of homework that is to be completed before class. In order to make the most of your class time you will want to cast on and complete the few ribbing rows, so that you are ready to start with the color work. Please contact us if you do not receive your homework PDF.
